Wine & Fátima/Batalha

 The day starts with a visit to a winery, where you can learn about the whole wine-making process, and taste 3 wines. We continue north to visit the magnificent monastery of Santa Maria da Vitória, better known as the Batalha Monastery, founded to fulfil a promise by the king, Dom João I, in thanks for the Portuguese victory against Castilian forces at the battle of Aljubarrota. Then we go on to the shrine at Fátima, where you can visit the Basilica (attending mass if you wish), the Chapel of Apparitions and the New Cathedral, and also the Coin Cave – limestone galleries some 45 metres in height.
