Wine & Monsaraz

The medieval settlement of Monsaraz takes the breath away with its historic buidings and the beautiful views afforded by its hilltop location: on one side of the Alentejo plains, with their vines and olive groves; on the other of the giant Alqueva reservoir – Europe’s largest artificial lake. Nearby is the lovely Herdade do Esporão wine estate, where you can visit the winery and do an expert tasting with a sommelier, featuring 4 wines (2 reserves) and 4 extra-virgin olive oils, accompanied by regional cheeses and sausages. If you wish, you can also visit a small local pottery factory to learn about this ancient craft, and/or take a sailboat trip on the lake.
